Easy Edible Cookie Dough Ingredients & Substitutions

As always this recipe is gluten-free and dairy-free. That said, I test each recipe with “regular” ingredients and make notes of alternatives or swaps so that everyone can enjoy it.

Here are a few key ingredients for this edible cookie dough but make sure you scroll to the bottom recipe card for the complete ingredient list.

Dry Ingredients

Almond Flour: Creates flavor depth and texture. A nut-free option would be oat flour but note that you won’t need as much as oat flour is more absorbent.

Protein Powder: I used vegan vanilla pea protein powder but use whatever vanilla protein powder you prefer.

Wet Ingredients

Unsweetened Applesauce – This is what gives sweetness and moisture to the cookie dough.

Chocolate Chips: Use stevia-sweetened chocolate chips to keep this sugar-free. I like using mini chocolate chips.

One-Bowl Cookie Dough Instructions

Grab a mixing bowl and spatula. Let’s make the most incredible healthy edible cookie dough.

1. Whisk together the vanilla protein powder, almond flour, and salt in a mixing bowl.

2. Add in the applesauce and mix until fully combined. Note that this will take a bit of elbow grease as we want to achieve cookie dough texture and not batter. If the dough is too stiff, add ½ teaspoon of milk or water at a time until the desired consistency is achieved.

3. Fold in the chocolate chips.

4. With a tablespoon scoop, roll the cookie dough into balls, or enjoy as is with a spoon.
