Chocolate Sprinkle Donuts

Can I even call myself a dessert blogger if I don’t have a recipe for chocolate donuts?! There’s something so totally indulgent and fun about biting into a rich chocolate donut that was practically drowned in chocolate glaze and sprinkled to the high heavens with brightly colored nonpareils.

Baked to fluffy chocolate perfection, these donuts are deceptively dairy-free. You wouldn’t know it though, I promise. And without the need to fry them, they whip up in a snap. You can literally have your donut and eat it too with your afternoon coffee. So why are you still reading ? get baking!

Chocolate Sprinkle Donuts

Description

The yummiest baked chocolate sprinkle donut you’re ever going to enjoy!


Ingredients

CHOCOLATE DONUT:


  • 1 cup all-purpose flour *can sub gluten-free 1:1 baking blend


  • ½ cup cocoa powder


  • 1 tsp. baking powder


  • ½ tsp. baking soda


  • ½ tsp. fine sea salt


  • ¼ cup dairy-free butter, melted


  • ¾ cup dairy-free yogurt


  • ½ cup brown sugar


  • 2 eggs, room temperature *can sub applesauce or flax eggs for vegan


  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract


CHOCOLATE GLAZE


  • 1 ½ cups icing sugar


  • 2 tbsp. cocoa powder


  • 34 tbsp. dairy-free milk


  • pinch of salt


  • Sprinkles *gluten-free and/or vegan if need be



Instructions

CHOCOLATE DONUTS

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and spray 2 donut pans with non-stick cooking spray.

  2. In the bowl of a stand mixer beat together the melted butter, yogurt, brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth and well combined.

  3. Add in the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt and mix until just combined.

  4. Scoop the batter into a large pastry bag and pipe into donut pans making sure to only fill each donut cavity half full. If you do not have a pastry bag carefully spoon the batter into each donut cavity.

  5. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the donuts bounce back to the touch in the middle. Invert each pan onto a cooling rack and allow it to fully cool before glazing.

CHOCOLATE GLAZE

  1. In a medium bowl combine the icing sugar, cocoa powder, and salt.

  2. Add in the milk 1 tablespoon at a time until you reach a smooth consistency.

  3. Dunk each donut top into the chocolate glaze and then immediately dip into a bowl of sprinkles.

  4. Place the donuts on a cooling rack to fully set. Enjoy!

  1. This recipe is delicious! I made these in a mini Bundt pan, and they turned out adorable. The chocolate flavor is rich, and tasty. We will definitely make these again!
